We have had a lot going on in our lives and to be totally honest...I have thought about this blog at least three times a week. But by the time the blog came to my mind it was generally after hours (which in the world of parenting means your brain is fried and you're 99% sure if you attempted to spell anything it would come out looking closer to some foreign language than your actual native tongue). In case some of you don't know, we are expecting baby #3. This has also officially knocked me onto my backside. I used to be the woman that "loved" being pregnant. Now when people ask how far along I am, I think to myself, "Not far enough." Here's how I see things: my son, whom I will call G-Money, stripped me of any genius attributes I once had. He sucked the very life out of my brain like the Brad Pitt character in Interview with the Vampire Slayer. My daughter, whom I will refer to as The Tot, took the little shred of good looks I may have had and claimed them as her own. This one (and no we don't know what it is yet, and yes we will find out because, really, what am I trying to prove?!) has completely annihilated me. I guess baby decided to finish me off. Now, let me tell you this, I have a very difficult time admitting that I can not do it all. So, when I was asked to go full time back to work, something had to give. I could no longer keep up with two-three cakes a week, work my two jobs, Baker Man work his two jobs, raise our kids, put dinner on the table and remember where my keys were. So, we have, unfortunately, had to cut back on the world of cakes. (I'm pretending as if all of you are heartbroken.) Dry your eyes and grab a tissue! We will still be doing cakes, but you might have to book us a little farther in advance than just a week. And we might actually start charging what these cakes are worth. There you have it. Our updates will start to be slow down but we will still have them! We do plan on coming back to the world of Cakes on the Corner FULL force come August/September. Yes, we have decided I will be quitting my job after baby #3 gets here and which will allow us to cake to your hearts desire. Notice I said your. We can not do this without followers. Because really...I can't eat all that cake! Anyways, thanks for listening and here's the latest :)<br />

Here's how the schedule went down..Saturday September 25th, I, Cake Lady, had to work my part time job as a Special Events Manager for the Saratoga Event Group. I arrived to The Dunwoody Farmhouse at 2:30 for the wedding that was to begin at 4:30. It was one CRAZY BRIDEZILLA! However, because I love everything that has anything to do with weddings, I handled her quite gracefully, even when she got out her measuring tape to make sure the tables were positioned properly. They were because she was kind enough to provide a layout that was to scale. I got home from the happiest day of her life at about 1:00 AM, in bed by 1:30, wake up at 7:00 AM with Baker Man to head off to South Carolina for the Culbertson family reunion. The Culbertsons are Baker Man's family on his dad's side. We had a great time with his brothers and sister! </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhezZD2RKcIxyebY3Si0fX-t61u9qzvfxn6Lai3gS-SlmT-BjioeR2JROlR_zF0qI6IBZQlqpvHdidmh0MhOxw65Yk2q0oceY1PnTsD056WZXT-w0tCZa6w4OwfeSPz8YVeTzFvsLHYQ5XC/s1600/179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhezZD2RKcIxyebY3Si0fX-t61u9qzvfxn6Lai3gS-SlmT-BjioeR2JROlR_zF0qI6IBZQlqpvHdidmh0MhOxw65Yk2q0oceY1PnTsD056WZXT-w0tCZa6w4OwfeSPz8YVeTzFvsLHYQ5XC/s320/179.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">This was actually the first time I was able to meet his oldest brother David. It was hard to get a picture of these five. They just couldn't stop making eachother laugh! We were unable to get a picture with Baker Man's Dad. Maybe we'll see him again soon. Drive home since I must work Monday...you know...Bills. Monday evening drive down to the <a href="http://www.cakeart.com/store/default.asp">Cake Art Store</a>. Tuesday-Work. Baker Man is working his second job tonight and must be there by 7:00 PM. He will get off at 3:00 AM home and in bed by 3:30 we hope. He wakes up at 6:00 to head off to the Fire Department. I have a day home with the kids. Thursday-Baker Man home from Fire Duty at 8:00 AM, I'm out the door to work. I get home at 4:30. He's out the door to work another shift in the ER. This time he gets off at 11:00 PM and we're both in bed by midnight. This might be the first time this week! Friday morning, up at 6:30 try to finish up a few cake details before the kids get up (did I mention we had several cakes this week?!), 8:30 AM- wake Baker Man, I'm out the door for work. 4:30 I'm home load the car deliver cake one. Eat dinner on the road, home in time to get the kids to bed and finish up the rest of the cake line up which is as follows:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6szVryoxsZjuGbU8pDXqKqs7ba4FFr4nfz86NClGURjhvc3sv38y4f2eZosM3XdXXv2ZoXK4SHYuqDQMM7KZ5YOheRHlekR9xR69NTD9No55YthMHifLLCh_3FMgQ_ImHs7R8Z-lzBVBs/s1600/191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6szVryoxsZjuGbU8pDXqKqs7ba4FFr4nfz86NClGURjhvc3sv38y4f2eZosM3XdXXv2ZoXK4SHYuqDQMM7KZ5YOheRHlekR9xR69NTD9No55YthMHifLLCh_3FMgQ_ImHs7R8Z-lzBVBs/s320/191.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yuengling Wedding Cake - I didn't even know what Yuengling was. It's from the Lord of the Ring or was it Harry Potter? Some how I get those confused. Regardless...<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Does everyone have something that they want for no real reason other than you were completely smitten with it the moment you laid eyes on it? The only thing that is stopping you from purchasing this cannot live without thing is the ridiculous price tag. You even dream for a moment that your husband finds it in a thrift store and realizes that this is it, the thing, the precious, and it's in the Good Will store for two dollars. Then the moment fades and you're sitting in your living room, watching Grey's Anatomy, remembering the cotton top old lady that drove up next to you yesterday was nice enough to inform you that the hub cap that FLEW across the road causing the truck behind you to swerve was in fact yours. I will never be able to afford it, but this is my precious...</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYc_-6QfakfzzZX0p3hGuDnJ5v8-v5rDKu2jK8fi2Xwcj3uWaZaIyE45194UmzY6QUH0nRuWP1VLAbxeNIcgWojMkiE43DFIR18Xjx84NUiIZ-QnUnD3xpPXheQFdUsbqKRh2qG1UchkJT/s1600/bijouxstands.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYc_-6QfakfzzZX0p3hGuDnJ5v8-v5rDKu2jK8fi2Xwcj3uWaZaIyE45194UmzY6QUH0nRuWP1VLAbxeNIcgWojMkiE43DFIR18Xjx84NUiIZ-QnUnD3xpPXheQFdUsbqKRh2qG1UchkJT/s320/bijouxstands.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://clarafrench.com/index2.php?v=v1">Clara French</a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.mylivesignature.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://signatures.mylivesignature.com/85812/cakesonthecorner/cf10430dfef616a79fda674637acb55f.png" style="background: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px;" /></a></div>Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-78156906862325793462010-09-20T21:29:00.000-04:002010-09-20T21:29:08.601-04:00Second guessing...As most of you know, I like a recipe. If something goes wrong, I have someone else to blame. It wasn't my recipe so obviously it's not going to be perfect :) Well, my sister is pretty much my Food Network Channel. She could whip up the best dinner out of elephant dung and it would put the Barefoot Contessa to shame. I envy her cooking mastermind. Brillance in fact. I clearly don't have the cooking confidence My Contessa has. Now, Baker Man and I have been in the world of couponing for quite some time. If you're not hooked like we are, you should be! <a href="http://www.southernsavers.com/">Southern Savers</a> has kept our pantry STOCKED! While it has changed our way of shopping, it has inevitably changed our way of cooking. Yesterday afternoon I sat gazing at a bag of black beans. At first I was trying to come up with something for dinner when my mind quickly drifted to how similar those black beans looked to the "coal" in the back of my son's Thomas the Train toy. I was quickly brought back to the bag of beans when Baker Man interupted my happy thoughts with asking me what's for dinner. Dinner...I loathe figuring out dinner. I would eat cereal every night of my existence if it weren't for my offspring. I could take the survival of the fittest approach but I'm affraid DFACS would be knocking at my door faster than I could say "what's for dinner?" Back to the pantry. Black beans and rice. My Puerto Rican bother-in-law would be so proud. Since I've never cooked any type of vegetable that wasn't canned I had to read the directions. And it's a good thing I had this idea at lunch time because who knew you had to soak those things for SOOOO long?! Now I wanted some Mexican rice but the only way I knew how to do that was with a Rice-A-Roni and we only had Uncle Bens...it's what's on sale ;) I decided to be adventurous and make my own...from plain ol' white rice. A little bit of this spice, a little bit of that...follow the instructions on the bag for cookings and BAMB! Mexican Rice! As I stare in aw at my rice perched there on the stove in it's perfection...I glance over to my drab, insipid, boring black beans. Back to the shelves! Can of corn...diced tomatoes...a little sour cream...a few more spices...mix, mix, mix...throw down some flour tortillas in a caserole dish...layer with my marvelous mixture...another layer of tortillas...marvelous mixture...top with cheese...bake...and my own version of Food Network. My three year old cleaned his plate! This never happens. Oh dear, what's that...a thought. Is it really that delectable or did I forget to feed my kids lunch? No, Baker Man has given me praise for my dish as well. And surely we both would not have forgotten to feed our little angels. I must call My Contessa! She would be so proud. I have created a dish from nothing. No recipe. Have I turned a new leaf? Probably not. But I can't wait to eat my leftovers!<br />

Well the week after that we had another wedding cake, the week after that we had a wedding cake, a groom's cake, and a birthday cake. Can we say exhausted?! Oh, I failed to mention, Baker Man and I did not take any time off for these. In fact, Baker Man is back to working his two jobs...<br />
<br />
Mental side note: I just heard the toilet upstairs flush for the 5th time, pretty sure Little Man is trying to avoid sleep. <br />
<br />
...And on top of him working his two jobs, I realized the triathlon I signed up for is less than a month away. Are you supposed to train for those? Pretty sure you are if you don't want to DIE! So, we've been playing our little game of tag-here's the kids-hand off and I've been waking up every morning Baker Man is home (which is only every third morning) and going running. I choose to listen to music so I can't hear myself breathing because I sound like a train trying to make its way up the side of Mount McKinley. I even created my own station on Pandora - Family Force Five - AWESOME!<br />

See, the reception was indoors and was really dark. I couldn't seem to get a very good picture of it because I had to have my shutter speed to slow to allow enough light and I kept shaking. Plus I am by no means a professional photographer! He offered to send us the pictures of the cake. Uh, YEAH! So, I'm just going to start at the beginning. About six years ago...just kidding, I'll save you the how we knew the bride and groom and jump into the cake fairy tale nightmare. We were asked to do a wedding cake for a couple of our friends months ago. This, as some of you may know, would be our first wedding cake. We accepted the challenge which quickly turned from not just a cake but a five tier wedding cake, 150 cupcakes, 120 cake pops, and "as many brownie pops as we can get." I don't have that much room in my little fridge or my house for that matter, but if you know me, I have a hard time saying no. Shopping and prep started months ago but the real fun began on June 20, 2010. Baker Man took the week off from the fire department to ensure we could achieve our task. Monday, June 21, 4:00 PM when I, Cake Lady, got off work, we made our final trip to the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.cakeart.com">Cake Art Party Store</a>. Tuesday, June 22- I took the day off work to help with cake/cupcake/cakepop/brownie pop baking and prep. Mimi watched the munchkins and we got to work. Our oven was on ALL day long leaving our house at approximately melting temperature for humans. Luckily we were able to get just about everything baked in one day...well for the most part. June 23- Cake Lady went back to the grind at work and Baker Man finished up the last of the baking and started making icing...LOTS of icing. Our freezer has been filled to the brim with cake/brownie pops. June 24: I took the day off work again so Baker Man and I can get down to business and a friend takes the kids for the day. We iced all cupcakes, made cupcake decor, iced cakes, decorated some, ran up and down the stairs to our freezer a million times (you know since I'm supposed to be training for a triathlon). So, the end of day four or is this five...we had three of the five tiers done, cake/brownie pops completed, cupcakes check...very sleepy. Friday June 25-Cake Lady off work again (with no pay might I add) by 4:00 I could see the chaos coming to an end...a light at the end of the tunnel. Little Man was the ring bearer in the wedding and we were supposed to be at the church for rehersal at 6:00. Baker Man and I thought we would go ahead and take everything to the church because they were going to allow us to use the fridge for cupcakes, cake/brownie pops and whatever else we needed. We got the and decided we would go ahead and set up the cake so we could take our time and have one less thing to have to worry about for game day. We set it up and headed to rehearsal which lasted until about 8:30-8:45 PM. The bride and groom couldn't wait to see the cake so we took them to the reception room and she almost started crying. "It's beautiful!" she squeeled! We went on to rehearsal and had to dip out early when the kids started to become unglued at about 10:30 PM. The bride wanted everyone at the church at 8:30 AM the next morning so all bridesmaids could get ready together and start pictures by 11:00 AM. Little Man was needed no later than 11:30 AM for pictures with the groom/bridal party. So...first person arrived at 8:30 AM...went to take a looksy at the cake, and there she was, standing tall, in all her glory...all five tiers. Mother of the Bride (or MOB) also saw it and tears (it must run in the family to cry when you see a cake). Then...at about 11:00 AM, we were getting ready to head to the church for Little Man's big debut when our phone rang...it was MOB..."the cake...it crashed." My heart started pounded and tears started flowing...I'm starting to think cakes just have that affect on people. Baker Man says, "We're on our way to see what we can do." We get in the car and all I can think is...how are we going to fix what has taken us a week to prepare. We started calling Publix to see if there was any way we could get some plain cakes on the fly. We arrived at the church with half of our kitchen and I walked into the reception room where all the groom's men were gathered around the demolished cake as if they were at some memorial service...REALLY??!?! Can you please get out of here before start sobbing and use your neck tie as a tissue. No kidding...it looked as though some 300 lb football player got down into his "let's do this" stance and plowed over the cake. How is this possible?! It stood tall and proud for over 14 hours...and then gravity just decided to cause it to plumit to it's death?! Well, however it happened we had to do something! The bottom tier was fine...untouched even. The next one was still standing but we couldn't manage to save it. The middle tier cake was fine but the icing and decor...not so much. So, we scraped it off and started making icing. The top two looked as though they were hit by a mack truck and then picked over by wild hyenas while laughing in my face. We found a Publix that could get us three iced cakes without decorations in one hour. Baker Man took off and returned with three cakes...we decorated them and were able to get a five tier cake up just seconds before the ceremony began...here's the before and after...<br />

Speaking of Glee, does any one other than me and Baker Man watch it?! I know my sister does, but when I ask people outside my perimeter they look at me like I'm crazy, "Glee?" Anyway, the season finale had me crying. Baker Man would say I cry at everything including and not limited to the Wal-Mart commercial with the clown. You know the one?! <object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hsvAj6qfmFQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hsvAj6qfmFQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> But really, those tears are ones of laughter rather than the "that touched me real deep" kind of tears. Anyways, if anyone else saw it, you are not alone. I watched and grabbed for the tissues too. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So lately...Baker Man is back to working both jobs--Firefighter/paramedic and late night hospital shifts 7pm - 3am. When he's there, after I put the kids to bed, I fold laundry and watch General Hospital while hoping and praying Northside Cherokee is not that dramatic! I'm back to working my two jobs - Corporate services representative for Terracon and Special Events manager at the Pavillion. Then there's the kids and the cakes and the church stuff. I think I have seen Baker Man a total of 3 waking hours this past week, 2 of which we were arguing about the PS3 after which we both had to apologize. So, I say all that to say this...it can only get better right?! I mean eventually we will be normal humans that get at least 8 hours of sleep at night instead of Zombies that are lucky to put on matching shoes. Yes, I must assure myself...this life is not like milk. It will not go sour, start to clump and reek of death like the sippy cup we found in the car shoved under the driver side seat (which I was starting to think that odor was a dead bear rotting in my car). There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Althouh very dim, it's there!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The kids lately--Little Man is taking swim lessons with his future wife (yes he's only three but it's been decided). He absolutely loves it! The downfall - the past three times we went, the moment we stepped foot onto the pool deck...thunder...wait...lightning...cancelled. Devestating to a three year old that was all pumped up to plunge his body off the diving board all in an attempt to show his woman his super hero powers. So, we've been rescheduled for next week. Which might be the craziest week of our lives! Wedding cake, cupcakes, cake pops, brownie balls and wedding festivities...I'm not sure sleep will fit in the schedule this week. Little Girl has been up to no good! She insists on climbing on and jumping off of everything. Including the dog, Mayonaise. She has a monstruous knot on her forehead with a bruise that is now turning a lovely shade of green. She thinks Mayonaise is a horse and her booster seat is a diving board. She has already busted her head open once (which we superglued shut) and now I'm just waiting for that phone call from Baker Man while I'm at work, "We're on our way to the hospital because Little Girl..." That one keeps us on our toes! </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

Cake Lady here is trying to stay sane...I think I'm doing a good job although Baker Man might disagree. Cousin Camp for the kiddos was a HUGE success. The grand finale video was done by <a href="http://leakproductions.com/Site/Leak%20Productions.html">Leak Productions</a> and was a HUGE hit. We've already watched it five times and just got it last night. That's it for me. I'm ready for bed...early night for me maybe. Over and out.</div>Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-55034690803784124532010-04-20T23:21:00.000-04:002010-04-20T23:21:31.770-04:00Remember to FLY!Ok, my house is utter chaos. I feel like death run over by a Mack truck...twice. I keep thinking Proverbs 31. I need to be a Proverbs 31 woman, right NOW! My sister is my inspiration not to mention amazing. She started this thing called <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.flylady.net">Fly Lady</a>. Her thoughts, in my words, are: your house didn't KABOOM over night and therefore will not bippity boppity boo over night either. I can't do this in one day. Baby steps. Here we go. I did it. I shined my sink and swept my floor. Did I stop sneezing snot everywhere? No. But I will wake up to a clean kitchen. Yes! A little hug from Fly Lady :) However, before I leave the disaster I call a bedroom (I haven't gotten to that step yet) I will make my bed, even if my husband is still in it. <br />
<br />
One week until Little Man's surgery. He keeps wanting to show everyone his tonsils...a little weird...Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-43839621183224954752010-04-17T21:36:00.000-04:002010-04-17T21:36:42.912-04:00Least favorite thing to do...Title a blogSo...what's up?! Sometimes I feel like writing: Dear Diary because with only nine followers I think I'm writing to myself. Anyway...as of late :) The landfill cake was a huge success! For me, I was excited about it but wasn't sure how it would effect my life on the blogging scene. BOY I was wrong. We got more compliments on that cake than any other cake we've done. We got phone calls and emails about how cool it was. Apparently the hit of the conference. I guess people that spend their time thinking and dreaming landfills never thought it could be put in edible format. I only have pictures of the complete cake but am trying to get a hold of the pictures that were taken while we were making it. Even the engineer got his hands in the fun! He learned how to use rice krispie treats and fondant to make leachate tanks. Don't know what that is? I didn't either until I made a landfill cake. I learned more about landfills in that week than I ever thought possible. There has been talk about a next time and ways to improve the realistic factor. No we won't be putting real garbage in it but just a couple material changes. <br />
On the life side of things...Little Man will be getting tonsils and adnoids out on April 27th. At his pre-op appointment the Dr. said, "Wow, he's got a set of tonsils doesn't he!" I'm thinking to myself...yeah, thus the surgery. I mean really. It's like when the dermo told me she'd never seen someone with so many moles. REALLY LADY!?! You just shouldn't say these things. Moving on. I'm going to try to make a menu for the week. At first I thought I would attempt a menu for the month...quickly realized I needed to snap back to reality. I can barely think of something for dinner tonight...what makes me think I am going to think of dinner for the rest of the month?!? Start small right?! Here's what I've got so far: Sunday... ... I think I'm doing pretty good don't you? Ummm, maybe I could use some help. Any input would be welcomed!<br />

All...dry your eyes (if you weren't crying just splash some water on your face and play along) updates are here. We've been busy! As some of you may know, we have a little bitty kitchen, so anything bigger than my face takes over the kitchen, causes the house to fall apart and the kids to go buckwild. I almost think they know we're occupied so they get into things that they know they shouldn't. For example, my jewelry, Baker Man's hair goo, every blanket in the house magically appears on display (some I didn't even know we had), cushions come off the couch and the dog gets locked outside because Little Man decided Mayonaise (our black dog) needed to go potty and thought he would help. They both also know once that cake gets put in the car and leaves our site...the gloves come off. We frantically try to make it look like gorillas don't live here and then start over. It is the nature of life isn't it. Get it done...just to have to do it again. The rush of life, the thrill of the game, the adrenaline high (insert you're favorite analogy here)...isn't it great!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anyways, the latest cakes...and some we missed:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH_jX1_bFamLA183fnlAmHzSA15tn-pSWD2jQZPk2zZ2W8n6Z3TTlq7vRYYlkreOkyP3nuO229KMDOPP15LUn-5t99XVPfmnLlX-rj4N6VvVY7wj8qcbtg9khRCZcunoj7OAiuUqp7ALTb/s1600/399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH_jX1_bFamLA183fnlAmHzSA15tn-pSWD2jQZPk2zZ2W8n6Z3TTlq7vRYYlkreOkyP3nuO229KMDOPP15LUn-5t99XVPfmnLlX-rj4N6VvVY7wj8qcbtg9khRCZcunoj7OAiuUqp7ALTb/s320/399.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cowboy Cake</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Since disasters are never planned...neither was the mission trip. Baker Man went as a medical person (since he's a firefighter/paramedic...he was perfect for the job) I went as support and basically a runner. I was ready for it because before we left I felt like that's all I was doing. We had a birthday party for Little Man right before we left. All he kept saying he wanted was a cars cake. I told Baker Man I just didn't think we had time for an encore of Lightning McQueen, so I went and bought McQueen cupcake papers and made chocolate cupcakes and threw some icing on it. He loved it...but I felt like I deserved the worst mom of the year award. Anyways, with all that said...here are the cakes we've done since the last post:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ5yYS5LvlXGBNL9yKzFLG_md5dW9YwAI7gIFdDkEb-LsFJq2DX4LossOhzbGbj7W8mG_4KFnILEurKW2pN3DUCPdQdZaN3khlvFvATuWJ3HPDY-TAHRyZtD2DKm24O3qUUt0yCkJIjsh4/s1600-h/SlumberParty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ5yYS5LvlXGBNL9yKzFLG_md5dW9YwAI7gIFdDkEb-LsFJq2DX4LossOhzbGbj7W8mG_4KFnILEurKW2pN3DUCPdQdZaN3khlvFvATuWJ3HPDY-TAHRyZtD2DKm24O3qUUt0yCkJIjsh4/s320/SlumberParty.jpg" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Slumber Party Cake</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Baker Man did this one all on his own...Actually this is the second time he has done this cake. The first time he didn't take a picture because I was out of town with the camera. There was a little girl at the party that saw it and had to have it! The thing you might not realize about this cake is this...he asked for a description of all the girls that would be at the slumber party. Long hair/short hair, blonde/red/brown hair. The first one he did even had different skin tones. Just a little detail that might be overlooked.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYkcNHYMzCX-5n62vOs1CC1goQ-CIhywme_ftRodwVaTo93HyEIwMmv0Dw-P-l9Ad3QKKY5hHDqLV7zUsYapXi0Vr8VTvJmvOgYVrJdxwGCAPIrm_nz55rmm8jrE3p-q8dp8iTEyhris6X/s1600-h/104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYkcNHYMzCX-5n62vOs1CC1goQ-CIhywme_ftRodwVaTo93HyEIwMmv0Dw-P-l9Ad3QKKY5hHDqLV7zUsYapXi0Vr8VTvJmvOgYVrJdxwGCAPIrm_nz55rmm8jrE3p-q8dp8iTEyhris6X/s320/104.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bustier Corset Cake</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A friend called me and asked if we could do this cake for a bachelorette party she was throwing for a friend...apparently it is against Publix policy.</div><div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, on another note besides cakes...Little Man starting complaining about his ears again. So, back to the Dr. we go. Little Girl wasn't acting herself either so we figured we'd get them both checked out to save on a trip. Well, Little Man had an ear infection and Little Girl had two. Little Man will be going to the ENT because of the ear infections and the fact that when he's sleeping sometimes he stops breathing. This may be what is causing him to wake up during the night. Little Girl will more than likely be heading that way...but the new Dr. is still waiting on our old Dr. to transfer their medical records...any day now. </div>Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-17323411809815730222010-02-02T16:25:00.000-05:002010-02-02T16:29:34.395-05:00Is it just me, or is this hardest month to spell?Sound it out, as long as you say it right. February, really? Who says it right? I know I don't, I'm country. "Febyouwary". I really don't like this month, and here's why; Valentines Day!! I know, I'm a crappy husband but I seriously don't like this day! Why is it ok for someone to tell me when to express my love for my wife? Are there women out there that only need to hear " I love you" once a year? I hope not. I remind my wife all the time that she is the most important woman to ever walk the earth, or atleast to me. Mary, the mother of Jesus? yep. She's got nothing on my BakerWife. Mary might have delivered and nursed our Lord and Savior, but she didn't live with me. That's a miracle in and of itself! I am hands down, the most difficult person in the world and she just strives right along. Champ material, I tell you. I will remind my wife that I care for her, and that I can't do this alone, but I will not buy her flowers or a card. I will teach our children to shower mommy with gifts and cards randomly from time to time, but not this day. I want to kick cupid in the junk, not for making me meet my wife (like he had anything to do with that) but for being an adult in a diaper and shooting people. Love isn't random people! <br />
Sorry about my venting, but if I can't talk to you guys, then who can I talk to? <br />
We have a lot of things going on this month. We have some serious cakes to make, like difficult serious, and we never tell ahead of time so DON' ASK! BakerWife made a brief mini paragraph about out trip to Haiti, but I want you to all know what is going on!<br />
We are going to Haiti Feb 27-March 4. It's not the worlds longest trip by any means, but I guarantee that we will be busy those 6 days! We are going as a Medical team, and a support team. I am going as a Medic, and will be going into the medical side of the island to do what I can! Katie will be at an orphanage, trying to figure out how to successfully smuggle children out of the country. She has a big heart like that, and she will cry tons. She's what you might call "emotional". She cries at comercials, like boo hoo's. It's quite funny actually. I've heard that the first team that went down there, delivered babies all day! Woo Hoo! I've also heard that people are amputating with hacksaws. HACKSAWS! The don't even medicate these people, just give them some headphones, and a stick to bite and go to work. CRAZY! This blog isn't our religious blog, its our cake blog, so I will keep it short. JESUS ROCKS! He has a mighty work to do to the people of Haiti, and BakerWife and I are blessed to be a part of it. Can't wait!Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-50865871410011541922010-01-29T21:36:00.000-05:002010-01-31T19:22:05.915-05:00A Few FirstsThis is the "a whole lot of us" portion of our blog. See, we haven't had many cakes lately so really it's just been...us. Us in our busy non-stop, pick up, drop off, kiss hello and goodbye with only one kiss exchanged kind of way. Anyways, enough of my complaining :)<br />
<br />
So, the other day Little Man asked me to color with him. Which really just means, he's going to ask me to write someone's name and he's going to try to tell me which letter is which. However, this time he was really focused. He asked me to write his name first. He pointed to the first letter and said, "I can do that one Mommy, see." and sure enough there was a big 'G.' But, I knew he could get that much of it, because he's been practicing. "What's that one?" Every letter I told him, I walked him through how to "draw" it. Then the tears. Mine. I'm emotional. Actually that is the one word I would use to describe myself. Some people find that odd, but emotional doesn't always have to be a bad thing, right? It's kind of like the word attitude. You can have a good attitude or a bad one, but if someone says "Sally has an attitude," all of a sudden the world hates Sally. Poor Sally. Oh yeah, the tears. He wrote his name. His whole name. So there's a first.<br />
<br />
Tonight was another first...but this one was for me. Here's a little bit about the Cake Lady. The reason I like baking is because I like recipes with measurements. Not just a handful of this and a scoop of that, but actually measurements! Is that so much to ask for Rachel Ray? I'll never forget when Baker Man and I first got married, my mother-in-law gave me a Rachel Ray cook book. She knew I couldn't cook. Well, she thought I couldn't cook, I didn't let her think any differently. I'm a good daughter-in-law like that. This cook book had lots of pictures (I like to know what I'm striving for) but NO measurements?! In the front of the cook book was a "dictionary". What Rachel Ray meant when she said a pinch or a handful. A pinch = 1/8 tsp. A handful = 1/4 cup. REALLY?!? What if I'm Andre the Giant and my handfull equals an entire cup? I could be a she-man! I don't want to use a translator when I'm using a cook book. Come on Rach, the reason I needed a cook book in the first place is because I want it to taste the same way the first time as it does the second time, and if I really like it, the third. I only want it to be different because I whoops-ed and used salt instead of sugar. Baking...not like cooking,. There's a science to it. An exactness. If one "secret" ingredient is left out, the whole thing caves in. Cooking...it's a guessing game. There is uncertainty about what might happen, but it will turn out edible 90% of the time. If you know anything about me (and if you do keep reading pretending like you don't) you know that I don't like walking into the unknown. I like to know what's coming and when it's going to hatch. So, the amount of times I've cooked without a recipes...I could count on one hand and not even need my thumb. Mostly, recipes from my Grandmother. I'm pretty sure she doesn't even know what a recipe is. Well, tonight, Baker Man is at the fire department. If I didn't have kids I would eat cereal. My FAVORITE food group!! But, I do have kids, and every third night serving cereal would probably not go well. I had a thought today. I'm going to try and make some orange chicken. How hard could it be? Turns out, not hard. I used the Wok (a first for me as well), tossed a few things together, and SHAZAAM! Chicken with a whole wheat pasta tossed in a delicious orange teriyaki sauce. I liked it so much, I saved the left overs. Little Girl, ate everything on her plate (not a first), Little Man even said, "Mmmm, yummy Mommy," (might not be a FIRST but it doesn't happen often). Yessssssss, successsssssss! When your dinner gets approval from your two year old...you know you have arrived! Look our Rachel Ray, you've got nothing on me!<br />
<br />
Now for Little Girl! We were getting ready for bath time and I, being the brilliant one that I am, sat her on the potty since she always pee pees on the floor while the bath is filling up. She's sitting there and...tinkle tinkle. "Yeah, pee pee potty," Little Man and I started clapping and cheering. Her face lit up with her crooked little smile. She's ready for potty training but I'm not. The diaper stays, for now. <br />
<br />
A first for me and Baker Man, we will be going to Haiti on a mission trip with our church. God is good and proves it more and more every day! My passport is in the works, the paper work is ready to go, and we're trusting that God will help us come up with the rest of the money. $1200 per person and we're more than half way there. I have never been on a mission trip. Baker Man on the other hand, spent a month in Panama and came back blue. The tribe accepted him as one of their own, and died him from the eyes down...smurf blue. I wish I could've seen it. This was long before my time. Now we get to go together. I can't wait!!!!!!<br />

Where have you been?Someone stopped me today in church and asked me, "Where have you been?" To which I responded, "Where have I been?!?! Where have you been? I've been here the whole time!!!!" No really, I've been here, but underneath a mountain of clutter, chaos, and dust! And oh how I've missed you (if I really have followers, and I don't mean in the white cloak kind of way). So, since it has been a while, I'm going to keep this one simple and give you some of the latest (however we are missing a couple of pictures because I went out of town and Baker Man was stuck caking on his own, what a trooper! Although I do still bug him for the pictures). The line up:<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, that sums up the latest cakes...I think, but there is something else I want to share...I went the the World's BEST Cake shop EVER! The Cake Art Store in Tucker, GA. WOW! First I was in heaven, and then my bliss quickly went to overwhelming fear. What have I gotten myself into? I asked myself. The answer...the most expensive hobby ever. Not to mention the fact that most people don't want to pay for the BEAUTY that is Cake Art (did you catch the pun). So, I have realized that this is not a way to make a living, but it is still something I love doing. Anyway, back to the store. It was aisle after aisle of nothing but cake...stuff. Molds, edible pearls, luster dust, pearl dust, and petal dust (I didn't even know there were so many kinds of edible dusts!?), cake pans, candy making tools, cup cake paper wraps, cake boards, and well, I could go on and on and on. Lets just sum it up with WOW oh WOW! So now, the dream, I not only fantisize about owning a bakery, but now opening a Art of Cake...I think the name needs work, but we'll see. Tata for now :)<br />

Some of you think we've given up on this blog like our other one. That is not the case. We have just been here...so busy...unable to update the blog. I tell myself that some of you wait for this to post. I wish that was true...so I will continue to make myself feel good, and pretend I have fans. So, now having said that, if you follow us on facebook you know our latest cakes were the Pumpkin cake and the Where the Wild Things Are cake. Here is the pumpkin cake- <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTmdOwdFMPV1unc1A3r57IpxpWfuzuLOHOXofIDh6Y6hbdecxFQ8FodKjJ9_Z1-IHgmHviBZkg-lT_KyDlALAkos41B5oeFRh5P0W2zXBKAMr9CMbaP2qAbUhyphenhyphenWNrgK5hOtSY601GPeSS7/s1600-h/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" sr="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTmdOwdFMPV1unc1A3r57IpxpWfuzuLOHOXofIDh6Y6hbdecxFQ8FodKjJ9_Z1-IHgmHviBZkg-lT_KyDlALAkos41B5oeFRh5P0W2zXBKAMr9CMbaP2qAbUhyphenhyphenWNrgK5hOtSY601GPeSS7/s400/015.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">This cake was for our niece Logan...thus the vine spells Logan, some people noticed and some people didn't. That's what I was hoping for :) Now to make this cake we baked two cakes, one chocolate and one vanilla. We baked them in a bowl that was oven safe. Once we baked the two cakes, we let them cool. Then, stacked them on top of each other like you would if you were using the Wilton ball cake pan. Then we iced it with a buttercream icing. We let the icing crust over for about 15 minutes. Then used a cornstarch confectioners sugar mix on our hands to press the lines into the cake, giving it the pumpkin look. Then we made the stem out of a dark brown and a light brown fondant swirled together. I doubted Baker Man on this, but he was right. I thoughted it turned out great...very whimsical....then we added the vines. Then after the cake was cut and served up...since the birthday party was on Halloween, it was only appropriate to turn it into a Jack-O-Lantern. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNUhbkSctvtQN2FK_l20mOoAP0Kh8yEPpWhIxymZAuDlXtf0GeBMTb93RdEAMYvOwAXrcF-zqcnAKUca9OPyVBhBWilzme48_-HhtD37vKpnVgIMXQrrfGa5btqPKOQdRq8w6nivouVhAc/s1600-h/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" sr="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNUhbkSctvtQN2FK_l20mOoAP0Kh8yEPpWhIxymZAuDlXtf0GeBMTb93RdEAMYvOwAXrcF-zqcnAKUca9OPyVBhBWilzme48_-HhtD37vKpnVgIMXQrrfGa5btqPKOQdRq8w6nivouVhAc/s200/009.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHLTaFQu4jlk3-QVOsZh96G9IRpvRe3MoglksoFc1q4o1xtSVLl6gYk9fLBEnRKUAFAUlQEn-WEO-N5KkmwUx6eVvyH_-FcxOj2Z78jmy8_sXQC1c9d14QoTCcL5jiwCYd6K-8nP252naf/s1600-h/084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" sr="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHLTaFQu4jlk3-QVOsZh96G9IRpvRe3MoglksoFc1q4o1xtSVLl6gYk9fLBEnRKUAFAUlQEn-WEO-N5KkmwUx6eVvyH_-FcxOj2Z78jmy8_sXQC1c9d14QoTCcL5jiwCYd6K-8nP252naf/s200/084.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">We also had another cake last weekend. When we were first asked to do this cake, we weren't sure it would be possible. Where the Wild Things Are. I keep having to ask Baker Man whether it's Where the Wild Things Go or Are. He corrects me every time. It's ARE WOMAN! Ok, ok, I get it. Gamebox, XCube, Playtendo. All the same to me :) So, we did some research, and found some ideas. And Baker Man executed beautifully, with help from his Cake Lady of course ;) So, the finished product...<br />

Recently, my sister got me addicted to Bakerella. She makes these things she invented called "Cake Pops." We have been dying to try these, and since I like to use the people I work with as my guinea pigs...we did. Although, they were someone elses idea, so we felt the need to put our own spin on them. They are a work in progress but, here they are. Chocolate cake strawberries on top of a chocolate cake...<br />

Then I was asked for 100 of them. What in the world was I thinking?!?I googled tons of recipes, looked for youtube videos for a few "How To's" asked a couple "cake masters" (both of which said, "I won't do those, their too much trouble"). I started to get worried but the people on Youtube made it look so easy. So, Chris baked the first two sets. They came out perfectly! I was thinking things were going well. Then came time to ice the mini bites of goodness. So, you're supposed to mix the icing in a double broiler, constantly stirring to keep it from burning on the bottom. Don't forget it can't get too hot because it will burn and it must be warm enough to "melt" into itself. But none of the recipes gave a temperature of course. Just a "you better do it perfectly or you're screwed." Well, there was definitely a learning curve to these things. Then the next batch of baking for Christopher. These didn't go so well. And I'm starting to was to curse this icing! The baked 6 total batches. We only need about 3.3. If we had more time, I might have said, try baking one more batch. The things kept falling apart. Crumbs everywhere, lopsided mounds of mess! Finally I got 100 I was willing to let leave my kitchen with my name on it. By this time it's only 4:30 in the morning so I might just not be seeing clearly. Regardless, I don't have any more petit four energy left in my body. So, I bosed them up and stuck them in the fridge. Now the debate is...do I go to sleep? Or just stay up? Oh, I'm staying up blogging because I keep telling myself "You have to please the fans." Yes, that's right, I tell myself that I have fans. And even if no one is reading this...at least I make myself feel good about staying awake makng petit fours. So, will I ever do them again you ask...sure why not. There was so much more to this week that I need to fill everyone in on...but...I'm feeling as though this blog is getting a bit lengthy so to sum it up: Chris's niece asked us if we could do a cake for her and take it to S. Carolina (that's where his family lives), so, he made it and left this afternoon, I also did a cake for someone I work with. He wanted to surpris his wife with a cake and make it something she is passionate about. She is an artist, so I did a cake that looked like a paint pallet...spelling? I have no idea how to spell that. I will post picture later this week. Also, I wanted to make a correction to a post that Chris wrote...Linda, the one that recomended us to Kristen for her castle cake...has had our cake. Chris just didn't know because he wasn't there when she was able have a taste. Just wanted to clear things up :)Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-72506339038016025912009-10-05T20:38:00.000-04:002009-10-05T20:38:17.454-04:00Our first compliments from our first legit client.We stay fairly busy, but until recently it has been for just friends. We had our first legit client when someone wanted a medieval castle for a "Medieval murder mystery" party, awesome concept by the way. We were referred to her from someone who hasn't even had one of our cakes, she had just seen our work! When we got the phone call, and made the cake, we had some serious butterflies. We delievered the cake, and the client's mom said she liked it a lot, and it was better than her "wildest dreams". To be honest, I didn't whole heartly believe her, I am my own worst critic. I would soon be proven wrong. Not only did the mother love our cake, but the daughter did also! She liked it so much, that she took time out of her busy work day to send us an email!! That is just awesome! I am so humbled by this whole experience. It really is something when you can be such a positive part of someones special day. Here is the email. <br />
<br />
Hi Katie, the cake was AWESOME! The girls loved it and it was delicious. I gave out almost all the cards you left me so hopefully you will get some business from the party. We took some pics of Kristen with the cake and send them along later this week. <br />

Wow. We are blessed, and very thankfull. Lynne, if you are reading this, thank you soo much for trusting total strangers with your daughters birthday cake! We will forever be blessed.Cakes On The Cornerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17541282255994420576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7963155275673928168.post-74130524949721433862009-10-03T21:50:00.000-04:002009-10-05T20:28:13.968-04:00Tiger Woods meets Medieval<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">We have officially completed the first course of Wilton Cakes Decorating and we have certificates to prove it. Now if I mess up I can't blame it on never being taught. So this weekend we had two cakes...a golf cake and a Midieval Castle. First Let me share with you about the golf cake. It was for a couple that was doing a joint birthday party with a coworker. All they said was, "Do you think you could do some type of golf ball?" Of course we were up to the challenge! So, Chris baked the cakes...and Before we knew if Thursday was here and the cake had to be done by Friday...and I knew it needed to be done before I left for work. Soooo, Thursday morning Chris left for work. It just so happened to be my day off, so I got busy. I made icing...LOTS of icing. I iced that bad boy and made sand dunes and before I knew it, it was 4:30, I hadn't showered and my mom was coming over to watch the kids so Chris and I could go to our last night of decorating 101. AWWWWW!!! The kids were down for a nap so I hit the showers! I had time to dry my hair and put some possibly clean clothes on. At this point the piles are starting to run together and I can't tell what's clean and what's to be washed or what might have recently turned into the dogs favorite place to rest her head. They didn't smell bad so I went with it. Chris got home, my mom got here, and so off we went. By the time we got in the car I realized...I haven't eaten anything all day! No wonder my stomach was screaming. So, Chris, being the wonderful husband that he is, was gracious enough to let me eat his supreme baja steak chalupa that my mom was gracious enough to bring us. Got to cake class, learned how to make sweet peas, got our certificates, came home, Chris went back to work (Thank you Neglia for working for him so he could get in touch with his feminine side), I put Griffin down (who somehow got out of bedtime), and got busy on the golf ball portion of the cake. Oh my goodness! I finished! And it was only 2:00 AM!! Here is the finished product...<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Now, the story of the Castle Cake...<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">We got a call on Tuesday evening about doing a cake for a 13 year old girl's birthday. She wanted a castle. But not a princess castle she wanted a medieval/mystery castle. She was having a Murder Mystery themed birthday party and wanted the castle to be dark. On Wednesday I spoke with her mom and ironed out some details. Thursday I got the picture they the birthday girl had drawn up to show me what was in her head. So, Thursday when I was home making icing I was also baking cakes and making rice krispie treat towers for the castle. Friday evening, once I got home from picking up the kids after work, it was hammer down on some castle cake! When I spoke to the birthday girl she said she was thinking we could put some grass around the castle and maybe a bridge...and possibly some flags on top...red and yellow. "Is that possible?" Sure! Why not?!?! So, we took her picture she sent me...and the ideas she told me and here's what we came up with...<br />

What flood?We have recently been very busy. We have had an average of two cakes per weekend, and most of which were not little cupcakes. I'm talking monsters here folks. We had a "40" cake for our friend, downtown Wendy Brown. It was her sister's 40th and she wanted a cake that was the number 40. She sent us an invitation so we could figure colors and designs to be used, and that was no help. We had to dig a little deeper. We did find out that her sisters favorite colors were "fall colors", and we ran with it. We ended up doing a chocolate icing cake, with teal and orange icing. WB said she wanted it cute, but grown up. She wanted us to somehow incorporate the little phrases that were on the invite. Finished product care of some of the new techniques we have learned in our class we are taking. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04VmZrC_AuInyEwNYEHuWw1pWihHs2VtLO_nvYqYmw6UYEiB42UBg6qEaAeJVnVFMJRow7lK-c_YnP8vKwYQG1AjMMcVCNz-XO6pGrvUQrR7vAzRU3ZEYPmlVv7_MsvB7VOcCPW_vW5H0/s1600-h/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" iq="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04VmZrC_AuInyEwNYEHuWw1pWihHs2VtLO_nvYqYmw6UYEiB42UBg6qEaAeJVnVFMJRow7lK-c_YnP8vKwYQG1AjMMcVCNz-XO6pGrvUQrR7vAzRU3ZEYPmlVv7_MsvB7VOcCPW_vW5H0/s320/027.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After we had that cake to done, we had to finish another cake for someone at church. She was doing a joint birthday part with her daughter. They had some family coming into town so it didn't need to be super big, just super cute. She wanted "girly colors and some polka-dots" This cake had to be delivered Sunday morning, and I had to work Friday, and Saturday day. Needless to say, time was against us. I get home late Saturday night from getting the kids, put them to bed, and want nothing more than to crawl into bed. Alas, staring at me were these two cakes, plane and unfinished. Dang-it. I muscle up enough strength to channel my inner girl, and decorate this cake they way I would for my daughter. The finished product looked great, or so I am told, and I couldn't be happier. I know that most of you have heard the phrase, "If you don't use it, you lose it" right? That applies to cursive writing. It took me 7, count em, SEVEN attempts to get this "J" right. (the mother and daughter shared the same first initial) <br />

There is so much detail that goes into that character...WOW. First we started with two sheet cakes. Then we started carving. I again had to use my nephew's assistance. I borrowed his Lightning McQueen. Throughout carving the cake, all Griffin kept saying was, "What you doing Mommy? Why you cutting like that? Can I play with McQueen?" My respsonses were "I'm carving a cake. Because we want it to look like McQueen. No I need McQueen." To which the whole thing started over. Once we finished carving, we did a layer of butter cream. Then we colored our fondant and covered McQueen with a nice red coat. Then it was time for details. Lightning bolts, 95, Rusteze, windows, eyes...wheels. All the details came together. And here it is...<br />
